Mechanism of action?
In Tylenol, the active ingredient is acetaminophen. Acetaminophen increases the body threshold for pain(endurance) and that's why you will feel less pain. Acetaminophen acts on the brain heat regulation center to remove excess heat. Hence via this process, it reduces fever.
How frequently can you take Tylenol?
Tylenol dosage frequency depends upon the product strength. Because acetaminophen concentration differs in various pharmaceutical products. But companies recommend, in every six hours no more than two pills should be taken. That recommendation contradicts the previous suggestion, in which, it was allowed to take two acetaminophen pills in every four to six hours.
But Doctors recommend that adults can take 650 mg of acetaminophen every four hours or they can take acetaminophen 1000 mg for every six hours. But do not cross the maximum acetaminophen dosage (4000mg) limit in 24 hours
What is FDA recommended dosage for Tylenol?
According to the Food and Drug Administration, “the maximum allowable daily dose of Tylenol for adults is 4,000 mg". That dosage criterion applies to all the drugs in which acetaminophen might be an ingredient. FDA also proposed that an adult should not take more than 3000mg of this drug. Similarly, every six hours, acetaminophen dosage must not exceed 650 mg. Tynelol is a safe drug but its excessive and more frequent intake can cause liver damage. Or in some cases, the excessive dosage can prove fatal.
