How often should you poop?

How often should you poop?

A person’s bowel habits say a lot about their health status and body functioning. Poop is a natural thing; although it is a very embarrassing topic for conversation, but every person gets rid of waste products like fiber, excessive water, indigestible plant matter, and toxic substances in the form of poop. Poop frequency, timings, consistency can also differ in every individual. So, the answer to the question how often should you poop? By studies, is two to three times on alternate days in a week.

Frequency

Pooping frequency differs for every individual but evidence states that most people poop three times a week. It is possible that some person goes to the toilet at the same timing every day. This can still be considered normal. The problem occurs; if somehow the pattern of frequency of bowel habits changes, like you are pooping three to four times a day or excreting fecal material at different timing rather than before. This fact cannot be neglected because it can be an alarming situation indicating a bowel or stomach problem.

Similarly, you need to pay attention to your bowel habits; if you poop more than two times a day and still feel fresh and healthy, then it is normal for you. However, if you used to poop daily and started pooping twice a week, that pattern is abnormal. You can feel uncomfortable; your abdomen may feel swell up; in that case, you need to consult with your doctor.

Consistency

Any alternations in consistency of your poop also affects your pooping frequency and it is also an alarming situation—your poop shape changes from smooth to rigid pallets, indicating that your gut is having problems. You need to contact your doctor in that case.

Factors that affect frequency of bowel frequency

Several factors like nutrition, age, activity and fluid intake affects the frequency of your pooping habits.

Fluid intake

Drinking less quantity of water can harden poop and makes it difficult to pass. It is recommended that someone who is having constipation must increase his fluid intake to soften the food. Hence, you will poop less due to less water intake.

Age

Your bowel habits change as your age, as constipation is more among older persons.  Aging slowdowns gut motility so that poop will not be easily removed. Also, the older person is taking lots of medication that can interfere with bowling habits.

Activity

If you are active, the Colon, the part of your gut, will work better and moves food for removal more efficiently. Studies have proved that activities like walking improve gut health and even relieve constipation or slow digestion issues.

Nutrition

The person visits to the toilet highly depend on the food that they eat. What you see in your poop is a mass of fiber. Fiber is carbohydrates that make the bulk of your poop. A diet rich in fiber can relieve constipation and promote regular bowel habits. You will poop normally and at  proper timings with adequate food intake, Hence all these factors affect how often you poop?
